The first winter strom of the season blew in from the Northwest and the southeast shore of Tamarac Lake reflects the ice formed by waves as the lake froze. A fallen tree becomes an ice wall and golden reeds are caught in the icy web. Maple and Tamarac forests of West-Central Minnesota. ©2005, Marc L. Windahl Posted by Picasa

A bald eagle over the Tamarac National wildlife refuge. The day was for shooting landscapes, and the long lenses and tripods used to photograph wildlife were not along. But this male presented himself and I let the blur of his wings define him against a grey winter sky. Maple and Tamarac forests of West-Central Minnesota. ©2005, Marc L. Windahl Posted by Picasa

This tree was beautiful. Its twisted trunk and branches speak to the viewer, its red color serves to attract attention. Scenes from the Sheyanne River scenic drive. ©2005, Marc L. Windahl Posted by Picasa

An abandoned stone house stands as a reflection on its fall and the coming winter season. The last green fights to hold its own; a fight the trees have dropped along with their leaves. Scenes from the Sheyanne River scenic drive. ©2005, Marc L. Windahl Posted by Picasa

Naked trees are reflected in the cold water of the Sheyanne River. It is a cold fall day, with ice forming on the banks; soon the ice will cover the river and snow will wrap the trees and cover the banks. 2005, Marc L. Windahl Posted by Picasa
